reality of life: transition is the norm.

if it were not for transition, my existence would be meaningless.

i’m a book lover.  i love to read books, fall asleep with books, and most recently, attempt to write books.  but don’t expect anything in print.

due to my most recent illness i was able to devour a few stories that well… kept my attention.  i’ve listed the books below…

a few good books:

genre + title + author + comment

christian fiction/suspense

Piercing the Darkness

Peretti, Frank

*good writing, good suspense, quick read with too quick an end

christian fiction/romance/suspense

The Guardian (book 2 of O’Malley series)

Henderson, Dee

*somewhat predictable, easy read

fiction

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time

Haddon, Mark

*great writing with good insights into autism, course language

biography

End of the Spear

Saint, Steve

*great follow-up to Through Gates of Splendor, ending is not what you would think

christian fiction/romance

The Rescuer (book 6 of O’Malley series)

Henderson, Dee

*somewhat predictable, easy read

social issues

No More Victims

Peretti, Frank

*pamphlet written in an appeal to prevent bullying

christian fiction/romance

Flowers for Victoria

Jeffers, Sunni

*surprisingly enjoyable read

wow!  aren’t you the faithful one!?!  i’m guessing that if you read through my rather shabby, self-indulgent book list you too are a fan of the written word bound by two sides.  if that is an accurate description i’m sure you’ll be interested in this…

(Ann, this is for you.)

a few lowlights from my life:

june 10 we will miss the wedding of some dear friends~ Dustin & Elizabeth Hatfield

we love you!

Jonas Timothy McFadden, born June 5  (1st grandbaby in the Davis family)

congratulations Cassie & Jason!

recently spent some time in Taiwan with friends we made while in the States.

look forward to seeing you again ;)

while in Hong Kong we had to once again say, “See ya later…” to some dear friends we made on this side of the World.

we miss you.

(note spelling correction) Braedyn Ryan DuBose, born May 28 – we continue to appreciate your pryrs as he is still in the hospital

your Aunt Jennifer loves you very much!

dethroned

recently, i was sharing with several people a particular struggle that i am dealing with… it seems to be an ongoing struggle of mine & i have found that as soon as i perceive a ‘safe’ place to unload my thoughts i quickly empty my conscience in hopes of losing the extra baggage.  but it doesn’t happen.  why?

the last time i was attempting to unload, i realized that what I was really doing was seeking wisdom from some other source than the True source of wisdom.  in truth, i, to my dismay, realized that i didn’t trust The Wisdom Giver enough to unload my burden on Him… because i was still trying to sit on the throne of my life.

stepping down from that ‘plush’ throne that has so often given me false security i bowed my head in humiliation to the King and asked once again for Him to forgive me and give me the wisdom to never dethrone Him again.

needless-to-say, its been an emotional week.

today as i was reading in Luke i couldn’t help but feel convicted & blessed simultaneously.

let the red word speak for itself:

chapter 17

title: Sin, Faith, Duty

v.7  “Suppose one of you had a servant plowing or looking after the sheep.  Would he say to the servant when he comes in from the field, ‘Come along now and sit down to eat’?

v.8  Would he not rather say, ‘Prepare my supper, get yourself ready and wait on me while I eat and drink; after that you may eat and drink’?

v.9  Would he thank the servant because he did what he was told to do?

v.10  So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.’”

oh too often i desire retribution for my “sacrifice” – for dying to self, stumbling with my cross.  i want to be thanked for my service to the King.  yet the King reminds me that i am but a servant...unworthy of his presence.

and to that realization i say, “i am an unworthy servant, i have only done my duty.”
